On November 2nd, 2017, Trump’s Twitter account was temporarily deactivated for 11 minutes but then reactivated.
Initially, Twitter blamed the deactivation on a rogue employee who deleted Trump’s account on his last day on the job.
Now the former employee who was responsible is speaking up in an interview with TechCrunch.
His name is Bahtiyar Duysak, a German citizen who was in the US on a work and study visa. He was a part of Twitter’s Trust and Safety division working for customer support. He was responsible for reports that involved bad behavior, offensive or illegal tweets, or any kind of harassment.
During his last hour of work, someone reported Trump’s account and without thinking, Duysak deactivated Trump’s account.
Duysak explains that it was a “mistake.” He asserted that he never actually believed Trump’s account would ever get deactivated. This is because Trump’s account is protected as his tweets are “newsworthy,” even though some of his tweets violate their terms and conditions.
Duysak is back in Germany and reveals the media has pursued him relentlessly. He says he was trying to lay low but he came forward about his actions because he wanted to clear the air.

He stated, “I want to continue an ordinary life. I don’t want to flee from the media. I want to speak to my neighbors and friends. I had to delete hundreds of friends, so many pictures because reporters are stalking me. I just want to continue an ordinary life.”
He continued, “I didn’t do any crime or anything evil, but I feel like Pablo Escobar and slowly it’s getting really annoying.”
Duysak says he doesn’t think he’ll get another tech job anytime soon. He states that he’ll probably look for a job in finance or something similar.
He also added, “But I love Twitter and I love America.”
