According to police, a suspected poacher was mauled and eaten by a pack of lions. This incident happened near a national park in South Africa.
Officials found a loaded rifle and ammunition next to the body.
The body was discovered early Saturday at a private game park in Hoedspruit. This is where one can find many Big 5 game species such as lions, leopards, rhinoceros, elephant, and buffalo.
Limpopo police spokesman Moatshe Ngoepe stated, “It seems the victim was poaching in the game park when he was attacked and killed by lions.” Ngoepe continued, “They ate his body, nearly all of it, and just left his head and some remains.”

The authorities are now working on identifying the man.
Ngoepe said, “We are now waiting for a person from the family but we are also utilizing our investigative resources to see if we can successfully identify the deceased.”
In Limpopo, poaching has become increasingly common. Last year, three lion carcasses were found poisoned with their paws and heads cut off.
Asian countries use lion bones as traditional medicines. The bones are used to treat anything from arthritis to erectile dysfunction in those countries.
The African lion population has declined by 43 percent from 1993 and 2014. Now there are only about 20,000 African lions left in the wild.
