UPS supervisor who said ‘colored people are the problem’ gets karma she deserves

An Atlanta-based UPS human resources supervisor is now jobless. This happened after she made Facebook comments that a black suspect was a “thug” and that he deserved police violence.

Gwendolyn Carder’s racist comment appeared in the comment section of an article about Athens police officer Taylor Saulters ramming his patrol car into a black suspect.

Carder wrote, “Thugs deserve it. If a family member so be it. However, I do no have any thugs in my family that I am aware of. Seems to be people of color who are the problem.”

Her comments were reported to the company and UPS fired her after 25 years on the job.

According to a statement by a spokesperson for UPS INC, “UPS has no tolerance for hate, bigotry or prejudice. The company embraces diversity and inclusion as one of its core values. The comments Ms. Carder shared in response to WSB-TV’s story do not reflect UPS’s values or culture.”

Carder’s neighbor, Marshea Washington, commented on the remarks. Washington stated, “She made a racist statement. It does bother me that she would generalize us and make us as if we are thugs, because I’m not raising thugs, and I’m raising three African sons.”

Washington added, “That was pretty bold, and now she has to deal with the consequences of it.”
