Former GOP Speaker Boehner slammed on hypocrisy after announcing he will sell weed (Details)

John Boehner, the former GOP speaker of the House and a longtime marijuana opponent, is changing positions on weed.

Early Wednesday morning, Boehner tweeted that he would be joining Acreage Holdings, one of the largest marijuana producers in the United States. Boehner says that his thinking has ‘evolved’ on the issue.

This is a huge change in position for the former Congressman because for decades he fought any progress on marijuana reform. In 2011, he wrote that he was opposed to any legalization because he feared it would lead to increased use of all other drugs and alcohol.

During Boehner’s tenure as House speaker, almost 500,000 people were arrested for selling marijuana.

Polls have shown that over 60% of Americans support the full legalization of marijuana for adult recreational usage. Over 90% believe that it should be legalized for medical use.
