On Friday, former Vice President Joe Biden issued a harsh rebuke after Kelly Sadler, a White House staffer, mocked Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) during a meeting.

Biden’s comments come a day after Sadler dismissed McCain’s opposition to CIA nominee Gina Haspel. Sadler was heard saying, “It doesn’t matter, he’s dying anyway.”

The statement by Biden read, “People have wondered when decency would hit rock bottom with this administration. It happened yesterday.”

Biden goes on and calls McCain a “genuine hero – a man of valor whose sacrifices for his country are immeasurable.” He adds, “As he fights for his life, he deserves better – so much better.”

He continued, “Given this White House’s trail of disrespect toward John and others, this staffer is not the exception to the rule; she is the epitome of it.”

Biden concluded by saying that “Our children learn from our example. The lingering question is whose example will it be. I am certain it will be John’s.”

Biden is not the only one who came to McCain’s defense.

Earlier today, his daughter, Meghan McCain, came to her father’s defense on The View, saying, “I don’t understand what kind of environment you’re working in when that would be acceptable, and then you could come to work the next day and still have a job.”

Also, when the news first broke, McCain’s wife defended her husband directly tweeting at Sadler: “May I remind you my husband has a family, 7 children and 5 grandchildren.”
