On Monday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) contradicted Trump’s comments on Russia. McConnell stated that Russia is not a friend of the U.S. He added that he supports the findings by the intelligence agencies that Russia meddled in the election.

McConnell stated, “I have said a number of times, I’ll say it again: The Russians are not our friends. And I entirely believe the assessment of our intelligence community.”

McConnell is not the only Republican who has spoken out against Trump’s comments. House Speaker Paul Ryan also had similar comments that contradicted Trump.

In a statement, Ryan said, “There is no question that Russia interfered in our election and continues attempts to undermine democracy here and around the world.”

He continued, “The president must appreciate that Russia is not our ally.”

McConnell’s and Ryan’s remarks come just hours after Trump had a press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the press conference, Trump refused to condemn Russia for their actions.

Trump stated, “He just said it’s not Russia. I will say this, I don’t see any reason why it would be.”
