On Wednesday, during his speech at CERAWeek energy conference, Energy Secretary Rick Perry stated that the shift away from fossil fuels is “immoral.” He added that it threatens poorer nations from developing economically.

Perry stated, “Look those people in the eyes that are starving and tell them you can’t have electricity.”

He continued, “Because as a society we decided fossil fuels were bad. I think that is immoral.”

Perry’s logic is way off, as solar and wind are cheaper sources of electricity compared to fossil fuels.

Also according to ThinkProgress, over 1 million people die prematurely each year in India because of air pollution that is primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels.

During his speech, Perry did not mention “climate change.”

Perry is known to be a challenger to climate change.

In the past, he has also denied that human carbon dioxide emissions are the primary reason for climate change.

This is not the first time Perry has talked highly of fossil fuels.

In a previous speech, he has talked how the U.S. is “blessed” to provide fossil fuel to other countries for a “better quality of life or better opportunities.”

He has also suggested in a different speech that expanding the use of fossil fuels could prevent sexual assault.
