Many small businesses owning Trump supporters, who believed Trump would be good for the economy, are starting to regret their vote.
For example, Eddie Devine, owner of a landscaping business in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, opened up to the Lexington Herald-Leader while realizing that Trump’s restriction on seasonal foreign labor may cost him everything he has.
Devine revealed, “I feel like I’ve been tricked by the devil. I feel so stupid.”
His regret comes as he is unable to hire seasonal American workers that he can pay $12 an hour to mow and tend landscapes.
In the past, he was able to hire 20 seasonal workers, most of them coming from Guatemala through the H-2B visa program. But today, he says he had to pass up a job that would have paid him $100,000 because he couldn’t find enough people to work. He worries that he may be out of a job as soon as next year because of Trump’s restrictions.

Devine also added that what makes him most angry about Trump’s policies is that Trump himself has hired 144 H-2B workers for a long time. He stated, “I want to know why it’s OK for him to get his workers, but supporters like me don’t get theirs.”
He’s not the only one who is worried about their future because of Trump’s policies.
Ken Monin, who owns a construction business, has similar woes. He stated, “We live and die by these visas. Last year we about went bankrupt. The workers we were supposed to get in March didn’t show up until August because they couldn’t get visas.”
Monin also realized, “Americans don’t want most of these jobs. I’ve been in this business 20 years. It’s hard, hot work.”
