On Tuesday, during the confirmation hearing for attorney general, Jeff Sessions said that he would consider grabbing a woman by her genitals, without her consent, as sexual assault.
When Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt) asked Sessions that question, he responded, “Clearly it would be.” Sessions went on, “The president is subject to certain lawful restrictions and they would be required to be applied by the appropriate law enforcement official if appropriate, yes.”
This incident comes from a 2005 Access Hollywood tape that featured Trump making crude comments about women, in which Trump considered as “locker room talk.” When this was leaked in October, Sessions was asked the same question and his answer was different compared to what we heard today.
In October, his response was “I don’t characterize that as sexual assault. I think that’s a stretch.”
