TV icon Norman Lear is finally receiving a Kennedy Center Honor at age 95. But he decided to not attend the White House reception because of his dislike and disapproval of Trump.

Lear is known for T.V. sitcoms such as “All in the Family” and “The Jeffersons.”

This isn’t the first time Lear has been outspoken about his feelings toward Trump. Trump has been compared to Archie Bunker, the loudmouthed bigot on “All in the Family,” however Lear doesn’t agree with that assessment.

Last year, before the election, Lear said about Trump, “I think Donald Trump is shrewd in a way Archie never was. Archie Bunker was far wiser of heart. Sure, the thoughts he held were antediluvian. But Donald Trump is a thorough fool, having nothing to do with the shrewdness that has allowed him to cheat and steal the way he has for his own good. Underneath that, he is a fool.”

Back in July, he also said that Bunker would have never voted for Trump. He also compared Trump as “the middle finger of the American right hand.”

Lear’s representatives released a statement explaining his decision, “Mr. Lear is thrilled to receive a Kennedy Center Honor this year. Although he has clearly stated he will not be attending the White House reception he looks forward to attending the Awards Gala at the Kennedy Center on December 3rd and ‘wouldn’t wish to be anywhere else that night.’”

Lear will be joining A-list celebrities such as Meryl Streep, Robert De Niro, and Barbra Streisand who used high profile awards ceremonies to make a statement against Trump.

This awards show will be broadcasted on CBS on December 26th at 9pm ET.
