As white supremacists and other hate groups are heading to the D.C. area for Sunday’s Unite the Right 2 rally, they may have a harder time finding a room and a ride.
This comes as Uber, Lyft, and Airbnb have made it clear that drivers and hosts can refuse services to those who participate in the rally.
Both Uber and Lyft released a statement that revealed the drivers could refuse service. This applies to anyone who makes them feel uncomfortable or they violate guidelines against discrimination.
In the statement by Lyft, they noted that their drivers’ safety “comes first.” The ride-sharing company added, “If they ever feel uncomfortable or disrespected by a passenger, they can cancel that ride.”
Uber also said in a note if anyone violates the community guidelines about “respect, accountability, and common courtesy,” they may remove people.
The statement read, “In general, regardless of event, drivers are advised to follow all local laws but have the right to refuse service to riders who are disrespectful or who make them feel unsafe.”

Airbnb had a similar message. Nick Papas, a spokesperson for the company noted that they have no problem identifying people “pursuing behavior on the Airbnb platform that would be antithetical to the Airbnb Community Commitment.”
He added, “We seek to take appropriate action, which may include removing them from the platform. We acted in advance of last year’s horrific event in Charlottesville and if we become aware of similar information we won’t hesitate to do so again.”
The rally is scheduled to happen at Lafayette Park from 5:30pm-7:30 pm. The website for the rally urges marchers to meet at the Virginia Metro station and take some kind of public transportation into the city. It goes on and says that they should take “an Uber or a taxi.”
This is not the first time the three companies have taken actions against the white supremacists, as they also did last year.
Some D.C. restaurants have also made it known they will also refuse services to participants.
